“So many times you feel like you’ve failed, but in the eyes, heart, and mind of your child you are SUPER MOM” ~ Author Unknown
This weekend we celebrate and honour our mothers. They are the women who raised us, the women who stand by us, and the women who love us no matter what mistakes we make. In short, this weekend we are celebrating SUPER MOMS everywhere. And for me, this Mother’s Day is more special then all the others – you see, I am almost a mom for the first time.
Every year, I struggle with what to make with my students for their moms. But from what I have heard from parents, they love things that include their child’s handprint. Really, how can you not? Having their handprint in some sort of keepsake gives your the amazing opportunity to take a piece of time and freeze it, afterall, their hands will not always be that small and leaving fingerprints all over your windows and mirrors as they explore.
My favourite thing to make with them are fingerprint flowerpots. Yes, very messy! We use our fingers to create cute little insects that crawl over our terracotta flower pots. We fill them with dirt ourselves. We even plant the seeds for our strawberry plants ourselves.
What are you going to do for your moms, aunts, grandmothers, or female caregivers? Here are some ideas:
- Handprint tulip bouquet
- Fingerprint tree on canvas
- Breakfast in bed (can never go wrong with the traditional)
- Home-made coupons for work around the house that she normally does, but you will now do (at least once or twice) for her
